First Prize

[Book cover photo] The 1998 DeathScore First Prize goes to Eliot Lear, with a score of 3.  (You may remember that Eliot also captured the First Blood prize on January 22, 1998, with Jack Lord.)  Eliot's prize is a copy of The Last Word: The New York Times Book of Obituaries and Farewells .

Second Prize

There was a 4-way tie for second place, so Second Prizes will be awarded to Landon Curt Noll, Alpha Schram, Karyn Pichnarczyk, and Ray Garton.  Their prize is a copy of How We Die: Reflections on Life's Final Chapter, by Sherwin Nuland, M.D.
